“Rachel is excellent. When I was getting divorced and undergoing medical treatment, she made me feel safe and comfortable with her warmth and compassion. She had a wonderful ability to listen and hear what I was actually saying.”

Sue

“When I started counselling, I was very low. Work was making me anxious, and my family life was difficult. It was all too much. I am by nature a reflective person. Rachel patiently supported me as I made sense of my childhood. Understanding my past helped me realise I am good enough. Now I am looking forward to the next chapter of being me.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will l need?

It can depend on the reason that has brought you to counselling but I  will be guided by how you feel. It can take a little time to feel comfortable opening up to someone new, and so a good number of practitioners suggest 6 sessions as a guide to begin with. However, there is no upper or lower limit and we will review the situation frequently.

Is counselling confidential?

Everything discussed between us remains under the strictest confidence, save for certain ethical and legal obligations which will be fully explained in your first session.

What if I need to cancel?

Please give me 24 hours notice if you can’t attend so the session can be reallocated. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice and missed appointments will be charged in full.

Is there parking, space for a bike or a local bus stop?

There is off-road parking available on the driveway to the property. Bikes can be accommodated also. The most local bus stops are located on Carrfield and Eason View, serviced by First Bus York.

How long does each session last and how often do I need to attend?

A session lasts 60 minutes. Weekly sessions tend to be helpful to start with as we get to know one another, but again there is flexibility here and the frequency may change over time to suit your needs. I work with clients on both a long and short-term basis. Aiming to meet at the same time and day of the week can be helpful to offer stability and continuity to our work.

What happens in the first session?

This is a free 20 minute telephone or Zoom call. It gives us a chance to get to know a little about each other. It’s helpful for me to hear why you’ve got in touch, what you hope to gain from counselling and is a good opportunity to ask questions. The client/counsellor relationship is significant in determining the success of the therapy and ensuring you feel safe to share your story. This call allows us to decide how effective our work could be.

Do you hold a professional membership and insurance?

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP- www.bacp.co.uk) bound by their Code of Ethics and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice. My membership number is: 00957379. I hold professional liability insurance with Holistic Insurance Services.

If you have any other questions not covered above please get in touch and I will be happy to answer them.
